WHAT OUR FOUNDER LEARNED AFTER 35+ YEARS OF STYLISH TRAVEL

If you’re like many travelers – including our founder – you want to look stylish while exploring the world. But between changing climates, limited luggage space, and an itinerary that ranges from casual sightseeing to elegant evenings out, packing can quickly become overwhelming. Before you know it, your suitcase is overflowing with “just in case” items you’ll never wear.

Fortunately, after more than 35 years of traveling the globe, our founder has mastered the art of building a versatile travel wardrobe that is both fashionable and functional – without making you stand out as a tourist. Here are the packing tips she swears by for traveling with confidence and style.

Jeans. Jeans. Jeans. The right pair of jeans can take your outfit from sight-seeing adventure during the day to drinks and dinner at night – depending on how their styled. Pairing a lace top or flowing blouse with flats can help elevate the look.

Comfortable flats instead of strappy sandals. Flats don’t take up much space and can be worn with everything from jeans to shorts to dresses.
Jean shorts or a midi skirt. Both of these options can be paired with so many different tops for a stylish or super-casual look. If you’re going somewhere more adventure-forward, shorts are definitely a better choice than a skirt.

Wide-leg pants instead of leggings. “Leggings are meant for the gym when traveling if you don’t want to look like a tourist.” Packing a pair of wide-leg pants is ideal if you really want versatility. You can pair them with beach-ready tops, crop tops, or even button-up blouses for varying looks.

A mid-length trench coat instead of a rain jacket. Get one that has water-resistant fabric so it can double as a raincoat.

A crossbody bag instead of open tote bag. No one wants to be pickpocketed and carrying around an open tote bag is an invitation for theft. If crossbody bags aren’t your thing, consider a foldable tote bag that can double as a shopping bag for items from a market.

The classic button-up shirt. These are really great for versatility since they can be worn with the wide-leg pants, jeans, shorts, etc. You can wear the look several times without seeming like you’re wearing the same outfit.

Tank tops! These are definitely considered a must-have when traveling due to how easily they can be paired with other tops like cardigans, blazers, or keeping it super simple with jeans and flats. The mix and match possibilities are endless and they are great if you’re wanting to wear layers.

An oversized printed silk scarf. This can be worn around your neck like a scarf, around your waist as a belt, or even as a head scarf. Plus, you can tie it to the handle of your bag to bring with you without taking up space.

A breezy dress. You don’t want to pack a dress that is too tight or too formal, but rather something that you can dress up or down with the right accessories and outerwear. Something like a maxi dress or high-low dress can be perfect for lunch with the locals or an upscale dinner.

Traveling in style isn’t about having the largest suitcase or the most outfit options – it’s about packing with intention. By avoiding these common mistakes and focusing on versatile, thoughtfully chosen pieces, you can create a wardrobe that works for every part of your journey without the stress of overpacking.

After more than 35 years of travel, our founder has learned that the best trips aren’t weighed down by excess baggage. They’re made better by preparation, confidence, and the freedom that comes from knowing you have exactly what you need. With a little planning, you can spend less time worrying about what’s in your suitcase and more time enjoying the destination that inspired the trip in the first place.
